Recently, at the West Lake in Hangzhou, tourists exchanged two clean empty bottles for one lotus flower or lotus seedpod. The activity of “exchanging empty bottles for lotus flowers” is very popular, and can be quickly completed every day. According to the staff of Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area, during the activity, the empty bottles weighing nearly 50 kg are collected; 800 lotus flowers and 400 lotus seedpods are distributed.

In addition to "exchanging empty bottles for lotus flowers", some activities, such as West Lake Postcard Charity Bazaar and "Turning Waste into Wealth" Handicrafts Sales Exhibition, are launched on the site. The proceeds from the public welfare activities will be fully donated to the Charity Federation of Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area.
